4th Annual BBQ Cook Off At The Beach-Cooks
Rules for BBQ Cooks
*TEAM NAME REQUIRED IN COMMENT SECTION ON FORM*
- 2 Categories- Ribs (beef or pork) and Pork- This includes Butt, Picnic or shoulder.
- 1st place $1500.00 for each category.
- 2nd place $500.00 for each category
- 3rd place $250.00 for each category
- People’s choice award: $500.00
- Prize money will be provided either in a cash or check form.
- $100.00 entry fee per category. This fee is non-refundable.
- If contestant wishes to enter both categories, they will be required to pay two entry fees, one for each category.
- Maximum amount of cooks will be 30.
- If contestant has their own logo for their team, logo must be provided to Fredericksburg Fallen Heroes via email (fredfallenhereos@gmail.com)
- Once contestant has signed up, their team name will be released through Facebook introducing them to the public.
- All team leaders will be required to share information for the BBQ Spotlight, which will be released to the public.
- People’s choice award will be done through electronic voting, each team will have a scan code provided to their booth for the public to scan and vote.
- All cooking must be on site.
- All contestants will have access to site 24 hours prior to event day. You must notify the Fredericksburg Fallen Heroes in advance if you choose to be on site the day prior. Please send arrival time via email, fredfallenheroes@gmail.com
- Cooks may enter grounds as early as 9:00 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023.
- Each contestant will have an assigned spot. An email will be sent out one week prior to event for your location.
- All BBQ must be entrant’s own recipe. NO OUTSIDE purchased BBQ. If it is found this has occurred the team will be disqualified.
- It is the responsibility of the entrants to provide their own equipment, electricity, utensils, table, tent and chairs.
- This is an amateur BBQ Cook-off. This is not a sanctioned event.
- No meat inspections.
- You can have other items such as sides to entice the public, sides are only judged in the people’s choice award.
- A sign/banner is required representing your team or solo BBQ host, this will be needed for judging purposes. We recommend to have your booth attractive to the public.
- Each contestant will receive a number prior to event. This number will be associated with judging.
- Do not discuss your number with anyone.
- No judge will have the names of the team when turning in for judging. Only a number.
- All entry’s will be judged on a scale of 1-10, with 10 representing the best.
- Free samples will be provided to the crowd from the BBQ cooks.
- No sales of bbq will be allowed.
- For a general idea of free samples on needed pork; approximate 4-7 pork butts. Please keep in mind, this event is heavily attended.
- No sales of beverages will be allowed to public by contestants.
- Operational and up to date Fire extinguishers will be required by all contestants
All teams should be ready for judging to start promptly at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, 10/14/2023; Judging will be completed before event is open to the public.
- Cleanliness is the team’s responsibility, please clean up all trash and once event is completed, area must be cleaned thoroughly.
- Announcement of winners will begin at 3:30 p.m.
- Each entree will have a 10 x 15 area.
- Each site for contestants will be marked upon entry to grounds.
- No vehicles will be allowed at your site.
- All vehicles are to be parked in proper parking area, once area has been set up, cooks (one vehicle) will be allowed to park in grassy area behind fence near Riverboat at no charge. Anyone associated with team in a different vehicle will possibly be subject to a parking fee by the riverboat.
- It is recommended that your canopy/tent be weighted down due to potential wind, location of the event is directly on the beach area.
- Due to this event is out of season for Colonial Beach, metered parking is No Charge.
- No water available.
- No electricity available.
- No oil or grease can be disposed of at the location.
- No open pits or holes are permitted, no fires can be built on the grounds. Only cookers, grills, smokers can be used to cook meats.
- First aid kits are recommended on hand for each team in case of emergency situations.
- Meats can be presented with or without sauce, contestants’ discretion.
- All contestants must be 18 or older, if a minor is present to assist with the team, they must be under the supervision of an adult.
- All contestants will be required to sign a waiver/disclaimer upon signing up.
- No alcohol is allowed at entrant’s booth.
- This is an outdoor event, located on a grassy area.
- All cooks must be registered and paid by September 14, 2023.
- One team/entrant per booth, no sharing of booths.
- This event will be heavily photographed and videoed.
- If you choose to have a donation jar at your booth, please remember this is a fundraiser for the Fredericksburg Fallen Heroes, so all donations taken during this day will go towards the event/cause. These proceeds will go towards assisting Veterans/First Responders.
